Before the weather gets unbearably hot (as we know it will in the TX summer) get outside with your toddler or preschooler and go on a fun family picnic! While the idea of having small children in wide open spaces may sound too exhausting, you can eliminate some of the stress with good planning. Anytime you leave the house with your kiddos, a great rule of thumb is to keep the outing as simple as possible. Cramming too many activities into one afternoon can lead to grumpy children and an exhausted mom.

    1. Location, Location, Location – When deciding where to picnic start by doing it at a familiar place. You could even start in your own backyard or at a friend’s house. Being familiar with your surroundings will give you peace of mind to be able to enjoy yourself. Once your kids are older or whenever you are more comfortable, venture out to a local park or zoo for your picnic festivities.

    2. Bring a Friend – Children almost always do better when they have friends to play with. Even introverted children appreciate the company of another child to play with outside. Being outside is the perfect place to spark imagination so having a friend explore with your child makes it even more fun! Plus, having another adult to watch the kiddos means you will have a chance to talk to a grown-up and have another set of eyes looking out for your child as you look after theirs.

An Easter Egg Hunt can be a fun event for the whole family, but did you know it can also be an educational opportunity for your child? Here are six creative ways your child can learn through an egg hunt:

    1.Toddlers Can Learn Colors

Before letting your toddler loose to find as many plastic eggs as possible, tell your toddler only to collect a specific color or colors of eggs. This will help your toddler distinguish between different colors and make the game more challenging!

    2.Toddlers Can Learn Shapes

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, fill plastic eggs with different shaped objects. After the eggs are all found, reward your child for naming each of the shapes found in his or her eggs.

    3.Preschoolers Can Learn Numbers

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, use a permanent marker to number the plastic eggs before hiding them. Challenge your children to find the eggs in order from 1 to 20, or 1 to 100 if you’re that ambitious!

For the rest of the ways your child can learn through an egg hunt, read the full article here: What Your Child Can Learn From An Easter Egg Hunt

Is your child’s back talking becoming a problem? Are you tired of hearing “No! You do it!” from your toddler or preschooler? There may be something you can do to help curb those annoying, whiny, temper tantrums.

Instead of responding by saying “You’ll do it because I said so” or “Don’t ever talk to me like that!” there are other ways to help your child learn to disagree with you respectfully. The best way to stop back talk is to provide your child with some independence – but within your own limits. Kids of all ages need a sense of personal power to make their own choices and express their differences in opinions with parents. When parents make all the decisions for them, children naturally want to lash out, and so they do — with words and sometimes, physical aggression.

So how can parents teach their children to disagree respectfully? Read the full article here: How to Stop Back Talking Without "Because I Said So"

Early brain development is crucial for every child. At birth, a child’s brain is only partially developed, leaving seventy five percent of the child’s brain still needing development during the early years. This important period of a child’s life is vital to the growth of a child’s brain. It is essential that parents provide the ideal environment that encourages optimal brain development, and the most beneficial educational experience.

The early years are the most vital years

By the time a child reaches age five this early development stage will be completed. Therefore, your child will slow down in terms of learning fundamentals, and moving rapidly into more complex conceptual learning. Achieving this early development will produce notable results in your child’s overall intelligence and academic success.

Health and wellbeing in brain development

In addition to early brain development and education, a child requires a healthy diet and exercise. The young child’s brain will need particular chemicals and vitamins to create neural pathways. Achieving a healthy balance between learning, diet, exercise and fun is most important. Through our philosophy of “Hug First, Then Teach,” we understand that safe emotional attachment is also essential for the optimal growth and development of a child’s brain.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Champions in northwest Houston, Texas offers specialized child care services. The early years of caring for your infant are filled with stresses and worries, but typically the rewards always outweigh the small problems experienced during child care. The growth and development you witness as your child learns all the necessary skills to thrive will include the start of babbling the first attempts at the spoken word. Your child will slowly discover how sounds, intonation, and particular syllables string together to form clear and legible communications.

We will discuss what you as a parent can do at home to promote reading skills:

    Reading books

    • Picture books that contain words are excellent as they can help your child form connections between the sound of the word, the look of the word, and an image of the object. This enhances learning dramatically and can assist your child in rapid brain development before getting to preschool.
    • Books without pictures will mostly be used for older children because books without pictures allow your child focus on the actual words and how to interpret them, rather than listening to a story and just enjoying the imagery.

    Encouragement through imitation

You will also notice that your child will try to imitate you talking. Encourage your child whenever possible by trying to imitate him or her to show that the actions he or she is doing are good.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Champions in Spring, Texas is the ideal destination for your child to learn the intricacies of growing up. Parents understand that it is not an easy task to raise a child. Fortunately, there is one aspect of child care that has become easier over the past few years, and that is choosing the best day care, or preschool, for your child. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Champions, Texas, lists a few of the important factors that you should consider before choosing a day care or preschool for your child.

    Emergency Preparedness

One important factor to consider is whether a child care facility is prepared for emergencies. The facility and staff should be trained and prepared for managing all aspects of any emergency. You should ask for the policies regarding medical emergencies, natural disasters, and fire prevention and management. You should also know that the staff has all contact information for parents and for emergency officials. This ensures that parents will have peace of mind.

    Safety and Security

You also need to ask about the policies regarding access to the facility, supervision, and safety procedures. You need to ensure that your child will be physically safe and that access to the facility is restricted so that non-essential personnel are not granted access.

    Open door policy

Just as important, a preschool should maintain an open door policy. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Champions, Texas, parents can, at any time during business hours, drop in for a visit to see how their child is progressing. This provides a sense of confidence for parents that the facility promotes a safe, secure and healthy learning environment.

We provide your child with the safest, healthiest child care services. We offer an AdvancED™ accredited program, including our Fast Track Curriculum™, which provides top quality foundational education. Contact us today for more information about our services.

Educational toys offer your child a wide range of opportunities for entertainment and learning. Thousands of options are available, but which toys offer the best stimulation for brain development? Here’s some advice from leading child care specialists:

    • Toys for infants: Infants learn through their senses, therefore toys that they can easily pick up, manipulate and move are important. Bright colors, different textures and toys that make sounds offer a good variety of stimulation. Your infant will explore every toy with his or her mouth as well. Ensure they are non-toxic and not a choking hazard.
    • Toys for toddlers: Toddlers are born explorers, so include plenty of toys that appeal to your child’s natural curiosity. Big books, with pictures and textures, allow your child to turn the pages independently, while engaging with the content. Props for pretend play allow your child to use their imagination. Simple puzzles and craft activities are calming and creative while refining your child’s fine motor skills.
    • Toys for preschoolers: At this age, toys can help boost problem solving skills while challenging other areas of development. Intricate puzzles, building blocks and complex dolls help your child to refine physical skills, while building an understanding of the world. During these preschool years, you can also introduce your child to educational electronic games. Teaching a child to use technology will also provide education about literature, math, science and more.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Champions, we are more than a traditional daycare. We offer the exclusive Brain Waves™ Curriculum, a program designed to provide your child with optimal support through the critical years of brain development. Are you wondering if your infant is developing properly? One guideline is your infant’s weight. Growth charts based on an infant’s weight are commonly used to measure development. However, you do not have to strictly follow those guidelines since each infant is different. Instead, you only need to worry when either there are noticeable changes in weight or if your infant’s growth stops following a pattern. With regularly scheduled visits to your pediatrician, you will be aware if there is any cause for concern.

    General guidelines

The most general guideline doctors use is the growth curve which monitors your child’s weight over time. By the age of four months, your infant should double his or her birth weight, and by one year, triple it. This is generally true no matter if your infant’s weight is higher or lower than that of his or her peers.

Other factors include a mother’s health during pregnancy, the time of the birth, and breastfeeding. If your infant was born early, he or she may weigh less than one who was born full term. If you breastfeed your infant, he or she is likely to grow more quickly during the first two to three months and a bit slower for the rest of his or her first year.

    Watch out for irregularities

If your child maintains a relative weight ratio compared to other children of similar age, then he or she is most likely growing and developing in a healthy manner. If, however, he or she is commonly lighter than average and then suddenly either drops further below or gains above his or her average weight, then you might want to be concerned.

    Universal charts

There are many child development and growth charts on the internet. These have recently begun including inches and centimeters, as well as pounds and kilograms so that no matter the measure, all parents can use them.

As your child grows and develops new skills, their games and activities need to evolve. Developmental games should provide your preschooler with the opportunity to build skills and learn new ones through play. Here is how child care specialists encourage development through play:

    1. Sing-alongs: Singing is a great way to encourage development in your child. Encourage your child to sing along with recorded songs. Furthermore, let your child make up a story to fit the song, thereby, encouraging him to use his imagination. This activity boosts memory, rhythm, vocabulary and focusing skills.
    2. Puzzles: A picture puzzle of something your child is interested in will keep him quietly occupied. This also builds fine motor skills, concentration, memory and problem-solving skills.
    3. Construction sets: Building and taking apart brightly colored blocks teaches your child hand eye coordination, encourages his creativity and helps him develop fine motor skills. It is important to choose a set that is age-appropriate to ensure that this activity will be safe and fun.
    4. Pretend: This game requires only the imagination, although some dress-up props make it even more fun. Let your child take the lead and decide on the theme and storyline. These games help your child learn essential language and socio-emotional skills, as well as how to co-operate, solve a problem and set rules.
    5. Scavenger hunts: A scavenger hunt iseasy to set up with a group of your child’s friends. Furthermore, adding rewards at the end of the hunt will help satisfy his desire to explore and achieve, while being active and building strong muscles. Your preschooler will also develop problem solving, teamwork and leadership skills. Plan a picnic at Pundt Park with other parents for a fun afternoon of supervised scavenger hunt challenges!

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Champions, we have the perfect program to keep your child happy and learning throughout the week.
